Lusaka

Area Overview

Lusaka is a cosmopolitan city sitting at about 1,279 meters (4,196 ft) on a limestone plateau. One in ten Zambians lives here, many surviving on selling their wares or services at busy markets. It became the capital of northern Rhodesia in 1935, and is the commercial center of the country, especially for trade in maize and tobacco. There is a burgeoning local art scene, an elephant orphanage, botanical gardens, and a reptile park outside of town, but the city is surrounded by farmland and mainly serves as a gateway to game reserves and parks in other parts of Africa.

Kafue National Park

Area Overview

Kafue was established by the legendary Norman Carr in the 1950s and is Zambia's oldest and largest national park. Covering a massive 22,400 km2 (8,650 mi2), the park is dominated by Miombo woodlands and interspersed with seasonal floodplains, rivers, and dambos - the dry riverbeds that provide seasonal refuge for the wide variety of wildlife. In fact, Kafue boasts more species than any other park south of the Congo.

Wildlife sightings can be very good with large herds of lechwe and buffalo in the floodplains, alongside all the predators of which lions are very well represented. There is also excellent birdlife.

Musekese Camp

Chalet · Fully Inclusive

4 Nights

Property Overview

Musekese Camp is a remote bush camp, founded in a pioneering spirit by its owners, nestled by the stunning Eden Lagoon in Northern Kafue National Park, set on the edge of a permanent lagoon connected to the Kafue River. The property accommodates just six chalets, each positioned for privacy and views over the water, creating an intimate and low-impact presence in the landscape.

The central area is open and relaxed, with a lounge and dining space that overlooks the lagoon, where meals are freshly prepared and often enjoyed communally, either at a shared table or in scenic outdoor settings. Thoughtful touches such as solar power, a well-stocked bar, and a photographic hide near camp add to the experience, reinforcing a balance of comfort and authenticity in a truly wild setting.

Experience & Activities

Musekese Camp offers a varied and highly personalized safari experience, with activities shaped around individual interests and led by expert guides. The surrounding wilderness can be explored on foot through guided walking safaris, by vehicle on day and night game drives, or from the water on boat trips along the Kafue River, each offering a different perspective on wildlife.

Seasonal options such as canoeing and fishing add further variety, while photographic hides and specialist equipment support close-up wildlife viewing and photography. The overall experience emphasizes flexibility, immersive guiding, and a deep connection to the remote Kafue ecosystem.

Musekese Conservation

Musekese Conservation is a Zambian run Non-Profit organisation created by the founders of Classic Zambia Safaris and Musekese Camp. Each and every guest that stays with CZ is contributing to the conservation of the Musekese-Lumbeya area. The primary focus was to establish law enforcement efforts, which has been achieved with over 40 officers trained and stationed in the region.

Today our community-arm has grown, with efforts expanding into the surrounding game management areas alongside an increasingly concerted wildlife research program, studying the recovery of wildlife in the area.

Accommodations

Chalet

The six chalets at Musekese Camp are simple and spacious, and designed to keep you close to the surrounding wilderness. Each room is comfortable rather than luxurious, with en-suite flushing toilets, fully plumbed hot-and-cold water showers, and views over the lagoon, while fans and ample charging points are available in each room too. They’re spread out for privacy and positioned to blend into the natural setting, creating a quiet, intimate atmosphere.

Full Day Game Drive to Zungulila

South Luangwa National Park

Area Overview

South Luangwa is 9,060 km2 (3,500 mi2) in size and has incredibly diverse landscapes ranging from dense forests of mopane, ebony and sausage trees to wide open savanna punctuated only by the occasional lonely baobab - all hugged by the wide and winding Luangwa River. The river is the most intact major river system in Africa and the lifeblood of this park. The now famous “walking safari” originated here and is still one of the finest ways to experience Africa’s pristine wilderness firsthand. The changing seasons add to the park’s richness, from dry bushveld in the winter to lush wonderland in the summer months.

60 different animal species and over 400 different bird species live in South Luangwa National Park. The only notable exception is the rhino, sadly poached to extinction. Aptly named the Valley of the Leopard, it is widely considered one of the best places in Southern Africa to look for these elusive cats. With an estimated 50 hippos per kilometer of the Luangwa River, it's a very popular destination for them too.

Lower Zambezi National Park

Area Overview

Lower Zambezi National Park covers an area of 4,092 km2 (1,580 mi2), with game concentrated on the valley floor. There is an escarpment along the northern end which acts as a physical barrier to most of the park’s resident wildlife, and enormous herds of elephant, some up to 100 strong, are often seen at the river’s edge. The riverine woodland includes ebony, fig, and Albida trees, whose seed pods are a huge attraction to the elephants and browsing animals. Further inland is a floodplain fringed with Mopane forest interspersed with winter thorns and huge Acacias.

The hills which form the backdrop to the park are covered in broadleaf woodland and on the opposite bank of the river lies Zimbabwe's Mana Pools. Animals can be seen crossing from one side to the other.
